I cannot tell you how happy it makes me that our 10 year old adores David Bowie and knows this song so well. Did you ever catch the series? The original one, not the remake. They used the song in the finale so perfectly.

I did not catch that series. May have to go back and check it out.

The UK one was BBC 1 as I remember. The US one based on that was Fox/ABC.

It's on BritBox, which I don't currently have. Dang, there are so many streaming services these days, I can't pay for them all. It's also available on Prime plus, but I'm boycotting Amazon at this time.

I think your story is totally universal.

On a much smaller scale, I began walking in my neighborhood last summer. I live in the suburbs and it’s a 30 minute drive to the beach or 10 minutes to a park so why walk in a sidewalk free neighborhood?

After living here for 23 years I walked down streets I’d never been on, met people and animals and saw some fabulous gardens and homes. It will never replace the beach but it became enjoyable. ☮️

Terry, ah the sidewalk free neighborhood. Been there! As part of my efforts to keep my metabolism going, I rise and walk a good 20 minutes before coffee or eating anything. It is quite a nutty glimpse of our neighborhood. I do see more this way.

You are right, nothing replaces the beach but a fabulous garden sure sounds swell.

What strikes me most is how you captured the essence of that 'odd inertia' - it's such a perfect phrase for those liminal moments on public transport. There's something deeply odd about being suspended between destinations, surrounded by strangers yet utterly alone with your thoughts.

The oddness intensifies when you venture into unfamiliar corners of a city you call home. It's like discovering you've been living on the surface of a much deeper world. Your Russian friend was right - there's always more to see beyond our comfortable orbits.

Thank you for sharing this odd, beautiful meditation on movement and discovery.
