I appreciated your story so much this evening.

I weed. I set myself on autopilot, and I weed.

Nothing in the world has changed because of it. The weeds will grow back. But tomorrow I will see some order created today. ☮️

We each find a way to self soothe. Just long enough to get ready to face tomorrow. ☮️

Thank you Terry - I am doing my best to water the plants while my wife and daughter are away visiting relatives they see just once a year. I failed at watering last summer (too much) so maybe I'm getting the hang of this. My wife has the green thumb, I am the cook.

Your writing is very vivid, as always! However I giggled when Substack notified me about the new post and I saw the title, because I thought - that's what I tell to my husband when I ask him to help me out with Daniel, while I'm off to the nails appointment 😁

Dariko - oh I l love the unexpected take, a reminder that the reader finishes the work and what they bring to the table is a reflection, their humor, their random thoughts. It did not enter my mind for a second that nails could mean anything else. and yet, our dinner table converstaions are often an exasperating defence of the english language, full of quirks like this.

Now you made me think of the very first time I took my wife to New York some 14 (15?) years ago. She is not a woman that does her nails in any obvious way, typically very subtle - but all the same I reserved an appointment for her, with the hand massage and everything and she did have bright red nails for a good week after that and I do have some rare pictues of her somewhere, I think eating a strawberry ice in Central Park, red and red.

I first thought of human nails, too, reading the headline. Might be a female thing. Anyway, it's a good thing to tackle one task on one day, and leave the next task to the next day.
